Swimming in autumn 2011
Update 7 june 2011
As the 2011 season comes to a close I need to update everyone on what is happening next term.
Firstly I must state that it is likely that there will be some major changes in 2011.
The pool at the hospital is likely to be closed permanently from the end of this term as the hospital has entered into an agreement with the Cancer Union to allow them to take over the building and their plans to use building do not include a pool being part of it. This decision will have a very serious impact on society as currently over 700 people use the pool weekly for swimming lessons, trim for the elderly, swimming for the muslim ladies, school swimming as well as, patient groups from St Olavs it self. The affect will be that literally hundreds of Trondheim inhabitants and patients/families from the surrounding area will lose access to swimming and treatment.
From the end of March I have been working very hard to secure alternative pool time with Trondheim Kommune – but so far this has proved very difficult and I have not heard back form them and continue to wait for a report to be presented to the politicians who will ultimately decide. We have thus far received a lot of support from the Politicians across all parties so I am hoping that there may be some positive news soon, but the process has taken a lot longer than I ever imagined. Both I and the politicians have stressed to the Kommune that this is a matter that needs to be dealt with urgently but we are still waiting- I know how important it is for you to know about swimming possibilities in Host 2011 and will let you know as soon as I have more news and I am sorry that this matter has not been resolved weeks ago.
Baby swimming daytime: The only group I can confirm that will have a new venue to swim will be babies/ small children who have the possibility to swim daytime. Trondheim Dolphins will almost certainly be able to use the Huseby Badet during the daytime on Mondays and Wednesdays. (I will confirm the times of these groups as soon as I have more information)
Best regards
Steve
